Best Caribbean vacations #5 is Ocho Rios

Jamaica Trip

Ocho Rios is one of the main three resort areas in Jamaica. The others being Montego Bay and Negril. Ocho Rios is located on the northern part of the island and what was was a small sleepy town is a full blown resort city.

Ocho Rios is not only a major port for cruise ships but also freight ships carrying sugar and limestone as well as other minerals plentiful in Jamaica. The Name Ocho Rios is Spanish for "8 rivers" which is a bit misleading as there aren't 8 rivers in Ocho Rios. It is believed to have this confusion because the British confused the original name which meant waterfalls.

One important consideration when traveling to Ocho Rios is the travel time to the airport, as the nearest airport is located in Montego Bay which is an hour and 45 minutes drive away.

The town has plenty of nightlife as well as a Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. There is also a dolphin cove where you can swim with dolphins, a sure hit for any trip to the islands of the Caribbean. Ocho Rios is famous as the setting for the 1962 James Bond movie Dr. No.
