Trip Advisor has published their 2012 Traveler's Choice Awards for the best top 25 luxury hotels in the world and only one was in the Caribbean, Sandy Lane.
Sandy Lane is located in Saint James, Barbados and if you have read my rankings of the top 10 luxury resorts in Barbados you would have seen Sandy Lane rated number one.
Since 1961 Sandy Lane has really set the standard for world class luxury resorts in the Caribbean. This is really saying a lot because there are a number of incredible luxury resorts in the Caribbean. A couple that come to mind would be Sheriva and Cap Juluca. Not too many Caribbean hotels can boast that they've hosted British Royalty, which should tell you something.
Incidentally, I know a gentleman who is the pilot for local billionaire Jon Shirley's private jet. He was telling me once how Mr. Shirley was spending the holidays on Barbados and invited my friend and his family to spend the holidays on Barbados as well. He didn't mention the resort but I can only imagine if money was no object, Sandy Lane is probably where I would stay.
The resort was the inspiration of a British politician who while visiting his summer home on Barbados in the 1950's thought the Sandy Lane sugar mill would be a great place to build a resort. The entire resort was rebuilt in 2001 with the latest in luxury and technology. The current owners want Sandy Lane to be the premiere luxury resort in the Caribbean and it appears that they are succeeding.
The current rates for a room for 2 per night at Sandy Lane is $1040.
If you are looking for the ultimate in Caribbean luxury resorts, Sandy Lane is about as good as it gets.
